Lutz is a straight run north on Dale Mabry for us, and it is one of the greener parts of the Tampa area. A lot of properties here kept their canopy when they were built rather than clearing it, which is lovely to live under and a lot of tree to maintain.
The other thing about Lutz is that the line between Hillsborough and Pasco County runs through it, so which set of rules applies depends on your address.
Pine country
Slash and longleaf pine make up a lot of the canopy through Lutz, and mature pines are the trees most likely to fail outright in a storm rather than shed a limb. Pines also do not compartmentalise damage the way oaks do, so a pine that has been struck by lightning or lost its top usually needs to come out rather than be pruned back.
Lakefront properties
The chain of small lakes through Lutz means a lot of back yards run down to water on soft ground. Getting a bucket truck to a lakeside tree is often not possible, so those jobs are climbed and rigged. It is slower work and we price it honestly rather than quoting a driveway number and adding to it later.
Two counties, two rule sets
North of the county line you are in Pasco, south of it in Hillsborough, and their tree protection rules are not identical. Several Lutz communities also sit under HOA covenants that go further than either. We check which applies to your parcel as part of the estimate.
